Fields with aromatic leaves

Artemisa, Cuba - The Basic Unit of Cooperative Production UBPC Antonio Briones Montoto, belonging to the Lazaro Peña Tobacco Collection and Benefit Company, located in San Antonio de los Baños, fills the fields with aromatic tobacco leaves.

The UBPC is responsible for planting 38.23 hectares (ha), of the 639 hectares planned by the entity, as stated by Herly Cruz Ramos, Agricultural Sciences engineer, at the Briones Montoto cooperative. He also added that until October 20, a 5.37 ha valley has been planted, thanks to the nine worker brigades, made up of more than fifty workers. Cruz Ramos explained that they have the necessary seedlings of the Corojo 2012 variety.

In addition, the irrigation cycles established for tobacco in this first stage are carried out, as well as forestry work. The engineer positively assessed the progress in the planting campaign at the UBPC, as the schedule is met, they have the necessary workforce and supplies and the climate is favorable due to the lack of rainfall.
