Sao Paulo Forum insists on the need for integration in Latin America

With a call for unity, articulation and concerted contribution of political forces, leaders and social activists from Latin America and the Caribbean in the fight against the neoliberal push, the meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum Working Group took place at Havana´s Convention Center.

The Cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and the second secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, attended the meeting.Representatives of leftist and progressive parties voiced their solidarity with all the just causes of the region, especially those related to the recovery of political and social rights taken away by the dominant oligarchies.

Participants also insisted on the knowledge of history as a way to safeguard national identities and confront cultural domination.

As part of the Anti-imperialist Meeting of Solidarity, for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, this working meeting also focused on the role of the new generations' preparation in political matters, in order to effectively face the defamatory campaigns of the big information monopolies.

Monica Valente, executive secretary of the Forum, presented a general assessment of the current scenario of the left's struggles in Latin America.
Cuba always teaches us that solidarity is an essential method to fight for a better, fair and just world, Valente said.

The other issues discussed as part of the agenda were the judicialization of politics against leftist and progressive leaders, the progress of electoral processes in Latin America and the Caribbean, the impact of neoliberal policies in the region, and the contribution of each country to the protection of the environment.
