La Paz - Opposition groups preventing access to the Migration Service and the Ministry of Education of Bolivia confirm that the coup d'état attempt denounced by President Evo Morales is entering a new phase.

'The strikes that they use for the coup d'état harm working people economically. The most affected are our independent professionals, enterprise and guild employees and traders who generate daily revenues,' the president tweeted.

Responding to reports from the Ministry of Economy and Finances that during the first two weeks of the strikes the country lost more than 167 million dollars, Morales tweeted that the stoppages attempt against the economic sector.

For his part, La Paz Police Department Commander Jose Antonio Barrenechea confirmed that several people were arrested for violent attacks, and possession of explosives and blunt objects on Tuesday night, during the riots staged by students from the Universidad Mayor de San Andres (UMSA), who marched in downtown La Paz along with trade unionists from the medical sector with the argument of defending democracy.

However, after the march, they went to Yanacocha and Mercado streets to occupy the Ministry of Labor and proceeded to Murillo Square, near the Casa Grande del Pueblo (the Government's seat) and the Plurinational Legislative Assembly.
