Cuba to present at COP25 the need to defend the planet

Cuba will expose at the 25th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP25, the need to take action in defense of the planet and its ever more extinct natural resources, Cuban FM Bruno Rodriguez said today on Twitter.

The Cuban diplomat also said that at the event, held in Madrid, Spain, his country "will defend the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and the role of developed countries in virtue of their historical responsibility".

Rodriguez emphasized that this Conference of the Parties is taking place "at a time when the planet is dangerously approaching its point of no return," in reference to the current consequences of climate change, as well as the excessive action of humans, which has brought with it the continuous depletion of natural resources.

The summit, to run until December 13, opened last Monday 2 with the presence of at least 50 heads of state or government and representatives of the leading international organizations.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the most important climate change summit in the world; its first report was published in 1990, which formally recognized human responsibility for climate change.

Berlin hosted the first ever Conference of the Parties (COP) in 1995, with 24 held so far, and the last in Katowice, Poland, last year.
