Cuba committed to consolidating and expanding its ties with China

Beijing - Cuba and China are committed today to consolidating exchanges in the sugar industry, in a context of pressures derived from the tightening of the US blockade against the island, and the US-China trade war.

In an interview with Prensa Latina, Igor Montero, director general of the Cubazucar group, stressed that the renewal of the contract to supply sugar in 2020 is of great relevance precisely because it illustrates the interest of the two countries in strengthening, expanding and developing their ties in the face of growing aggressions from Washington.

The text is a protocol recognized as historic in bilateral relations and is part of the commitments that are ratified annually between the governments of Havana and Beijing.

The contract was signed by Cubazucar and the China Oil and Food Corporation, COFCO.

'China,' Montero recalled, 'is one of our major sugar clients, even before the revolutionary triumph of 1959, but with the establishment of diplomatic ties almost six decades ago this was included in the commercial agreements at the intergovernmental level.

'Traditionally, Cuba and China have always had very important ties in terms of sugar trade, we as exporters and they as importers (...) with a delivery volume that has been gradually growing and (...) is carried out under more advantageous conditions,' he said.
