The 1st Congress of Tobacco Research (Investa 2019) kicks off today until next Friday in Havana, aiming at fostering exchange among professionals in the sector.
Genetic improvement and phytopathology; agricultural practices and plant physiology; industrial processes of conventional and emerging smokable articles; will be some of the issues to be dealt with by the attendees.
Cuba's advances and the latest studies carried out by the Tobacco Research Institute will be presented in relation to the application of science and technology for production.
A relevant topic in the agenda of the congress will be the scientific focus on socio-historical cultural aspects and the commercialization of tobacco and related products.
The event has a total of 150 lectures and master classes, as well as visits and exchanges with producers, and 12 recognized foreign personalities in the tobacco field will participate, along with about 300 national and international delegates from eight countries, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
