Havana - Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel asserted that Cuba rejects the unjust sanctions imposed on Russia by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Decisions in the sports field and in the International Olympic Movement cannot be based on political considerations or double standards, Diaz-Canel posted on Twitter.
The Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, expressed on the same social media that Cuba firmly rejects the decision of the WADA on # Russia, a country of recognized reputation and contribution to international sport.
The WADA executive board decided to impose a four-year penalty on Russia for manipulating the Moscow laboratory database collected in January, thus masking the positives of 298 athletes, according to the agency's assessment.
As a result of this sanction, Russia cannot participate in international competitions and is excluded from the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the Qatar 2020 Soccer World Cup.
