Baghdad - A US airstrike on Saturday killed six people and injured a further three in a northern area of this capital, in another act described as a violation of Iraq's sovereignty.
The target was a caravan of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, al-Hashad al-Shaabi, in Arabic), attached to the Iraqi Armed Forces.
A few hours earlier, in a similar operation, US drones and helicopters killed Iranian General Qassam Soleimani, the Deputy Commander of the PMF Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and six other fighters.
Reports indicate that the recent attack was directed against members of the Kataeb al-Imam Ali movement, which is part of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
According to reports, the Iraqi parliament plans on Sunday to discuss the relevance of a security agreement sealed with the United States whereby its troops would not participate in military actions within Iraqi territory.
The deal stipulates that the US presence is only intended for consultancy work and fighting terrorism, but nonetheless was rejected by many Iraqis.
