Paris - French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian reiterated this Tuesday the call to save the nuclear deal with Iran, considering that there is still time for negotiations.
According to the official, since September 2017, Paris has been proposing solutions to rescue the deal reached in 2015 in Vienna, which in his opinion is falling apart.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from the initiative, also signed by Germany, China, France, the United Kingdom and Russia, a measure to which Iran responded by reducing its commitments under the agreement.
In that sense, Le Drian recalled the efforts made by President Emmanuel Macron at the UN, in order to prevent the failure of a key instrument for regional stability and the security of Europe.
However, the minister stressed, 'The repeated violations leave us today asking about the long-term validity of this (nuclear) accord. We are considering launching the dispute mechanism resolution... we will take a decision in the coming days.'
Trump has adopted a hostile position towards Tehran, by resuming unilateral sanctions and escalating actions against the country.
This aggressiveness resulted in the recent assassination in Iraq of Iranian General Qassem Soleiman, unleashing a scenario that could lead to a new conflict in the Middle East.
In this regard, Le Drian appealed to sanity and the necessary efforts to prevent 'a war that nobody wants.'
According to Le Drian, the essential enemy in the region is the ISIS terrorist group, which is not yet defeated.
