Artemisa, Cuba - The use of agroecological techniques is promoted on farms belonging to the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture Movement, in San Antonio de los Baños.
Regarding the application of agroecology, there are three prominent areas: the La Felicia farm, dedicated to ornamental and fruit plants; the Frutales farm, and the farm belonging to the Jesús Menéndez Credit and Services Cooperative. These farms have fruit trees such as Moringa, Nim Tree, Marpacific and repellent plants.
Producers obtain a part of the seed they use for planting, make rational use of water and undertake anterosive measures to contribute to better use of the soil, including crop rotation and interleaving and the use of organic fertilizers and vermiculture.
Through these alternatives, agricultural production is aimed at preserving natural resources. The harvest of healthy and quality food is also guaranteed in plantations resistant to drought and other weather events, through the use of efficient biological means and microorganisms.
