Caridad Thays Pedroso faces outdated prejudices that baseball is a sport for men, when she wears black suit and goes out to the baseball field to impart justice and - sometimes - to impose order.
This woman from Bahia Honda who setlled down in Artemisa ,says that she is in love with baseball and softball and that is why arbitrage called her attention . “My first steps as an athlete were in softball, then I changed to baseball and I still practice it, I am also a teacher in a sports area,” says Thays.
“I started imparting justice when I was still a student of Physical Culture and Professor Yamilé Pérez convinced me towards it, since then I was refereeing games of both disciplines even without the degree, until I registered a national softball course in Ciego de Ávila province.
“Then, the province was looking for baseball referees and I immediately joined the course right here at 26 de Julio Stadium with Professor Palmer, responsible for rules and arbitration of the Provincial Commission, five years ago,” she recalls.
Little by little, Thays has earned a recognition in Artemisa´s baseball and since the last Provincial Series she has had important responsibilities. "In Artemisa there are few referees, so last year I acted practically alone in many games of the Provincial competition , and modesty apart I think I did my best ."
“I always try to impart justice in every sense of the word, apply rules as they are and not favor anyone, although sometimes not all sides are happy with your decision. That is our job and I respect it very much for that. I always look for impartiality, ”she says.
“Controversial decisions can raise discussions, although for me, being a woman, they respect me more, especially the players and the directors; I have truly earned their respect. I consider that in our Provincial games ,discipline is good, but it still has to improve. ”
Thays,28, overflows energy and desire to grow professionally, eager to emulate Yanet Moreno and get to act in the National Series ... and why not, out of the country. Luckily, Cuban baseball does not limit her promotion, much less for being a woman: on the contrary, it encourages her to fulfill her dreams, because flowers like her adorn our diamonds.
