The Havana International Book Fair (FIL Cuba 2020), the most important event of its kind in the country, will start today at the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress.
The official opening ceremony will take place at 6:00 pm in the famous fairgrounds, which will host, until February 16, literary, academic and professional meetings, presentations of books, magazines and digital products, publication sales and artistic activities for everybody.
The program also includes the inauguration of the 4th International Meeting of Poetry Promoters, dedicated this time to poets Eliseo Diego and Roberto Fernandez Retamar and the Villa San Cristobal in Havana on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of its founding.
Nearly 200 guests and 44 countries will attend this 29th edition, devoted to historian and essayist Ana Cairo, who died last year, and playwright Eugenio Hernandez Espinosa.
The great literary event will have, for the first time in its history, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as guest of honor, celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Asian nation and Cuba.
The FIL Cuba 2020 will occupy until February 16th venues such as the Casa de las Americas, Pabellon Cuba, the Dulce Maria Loynaz and Vicente Revuelta cultural centers, the University of Havana, Casa del Alba Cultural, the National Library Jose Marti and the Ruben Martinez Villena Library, among others.
