Former Peruvian prime minister arrested for alleged corruption

Lima - Ex-Prime Minister Yehude Simon was included in the list of former Peruvian presidents and politicians who have been arrested for alleged corruption, as he was detained for ten days, after which the imprisonment may be extended.

According to sources from the Prosecutor's Office, the arrest warrant is related to the hypothesis that as governor of the northern region of Lambayeque, Simon favored the Brazilian company Odebrecht with a contract to execute the Olmos-Tinajones irrigation project, for which he received an illegal contribution of 300,000 dollars for his electoral campaign.

The prosecutor in charge, Jose Perez, said that there are very serious elements that suggest that the detainee might have received illegal payments from Odebrecht related to the abovementioned project.

Simon is being investigated for the crimes of collusion against the public administration and asset laundering.

Simon's right-hand man, the manager of the Olmos-Tinajones project, Pablo Salazar Torres, was also arrested on Monday.

The former prime minister received 300,000 dollars for electoral purposes from Odebrecht, according to the company's former president in Peru, Jorge

Barata, who accused Salazar and Luis Malaga Cocchella (deceased) of being the middlemen who received the money.

There, in the Catskill Mountains, he conceived the second and last book of poems that he would publish months later: Simple Verses.
