Havana - Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel checked this Tuesday the breakthrough in a new prototype of a lung ventilator for intensive care units and the program for a vaccine, as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
On a tour of the main headquarters of the Electronics Group in this capital, where the vent is produced, the president praised the team and stressed the importance of new technologies to revolutionize care for severely ill patients.
Diaz-Canel also arrived today at Cuba's Neuroscience Center, where prominent researchers explained the development program of a specific vaccine against SARS-CoV2, as reported by Cuba's Presidency website.
Among the significant contributions made to cope with the new disease arising from intense scientific activity is the SARS CoV-2 diagnostic test created by the Immunoassay Center that is already used in enquiries' work.
Likewise, a forecasting model was generated for monitoring the Covid-19 behavior that has allowed making decisions and adjusting the national control and prevention plan, to keep the country in a favorable scenario.
Several drugs developed for other diseases were included into the treatment protocols with encouraging outcomes, as is the case of the CIGB 258, applied to patients in critical and severe stages.
Another contribution is the use of geographic information systems to identify the healthcare areas with the greatest vulnerabilities and to study various factors that favor the spread of the virus.
