Artemisa, Cuba - The Provincial Service of Comprehensive Community Health Care for Memory Disorders, belonging to the Iván Portuondo General Teaching Hospital in San Antonio de los Baños, led by Dr. Saily Sosa Pérez, Master of Science, constitutes a Reference Center for the Alzheimer's treatment in Cuba.
For a year, a total of 150 patients were administered NeuroEPO, a drug developed by the Center for Molecular Immunology. Despite the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19, during the first phase of the post-pandemic stage, these patients are carefully transferred to the Cuba's Neuroscience Institute in order to check the effects of the administered medication.
"The patients were evaluated at the beginning, and after a year the evaluation is repeated at the Institute, where they undergo two tests: magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalogram," explained Leslie Pérez Ruiz, promoter of the Clinical Trial, which is carried out in San Antonio de los Baños since 2017.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the follow-up of patients with Alzheimer's disease is maintained at the Provincial Service for Comprehensive Community Health Care for Memory Disorders in San Antonio de los Baños, and the clinical trial continues, which should conclude in the coming months.
