Hanoi - The figures of Covid-19 cases and deaths from the disease have been intact in Vietnam, due to a persistent control over the new outbreak six weeks ago in central Da Nang city.
The national commission in charge of containing the pandemic informed that the number of cases since the virus broke out in the country early in 2020 remained at 1,046 and death toll at 35.
Due to the number of cases, Vietnam ranks 161 among the nations suffering the effects of this disease. Its infection and death rates are also among the best in Asia and globally, with 11% and 0.3% per million inhabitants, respectively.
Its basic statistics against Covid-19 were even higher until July 25. Since then, Vietnam had only reported 417 cases and no deaths.
A new outbreak emerged that day in Da Nang and figures rose. Of 619 people who later were infected with the virus, 89% (551) are directly or indirectly related to that city, the fifth most populous in Vietnam.
Nearly 62,000 people are currently in quarantine or under medical surveillance in specialized centers or at home, almost all of them repatriated from other nations.
