I found her smiling. She pleased customers on the other side of the counter. She explained again and again the use of some medicine (which I dare not repeat) and its price on the world market. This is Yadira Huete Lazo´s daily routine, one of the workers in International Pharmacy and Optics in Mariel township.
This woman with the spirit of a girl graduated as a mid-level technician in Dispensary Pharmacy. She worked for 11 years in the drug department of the main pharmacy of the coastal municipality. Later, the life of this persevering lady was adjusted by difficulties that prevented her from continuing working in this sector.
She always wanted to keep on learning . She worked during a year as a civil register, after having trained in the subject. Later, an unprecedented experience awaited her in a plastic bag factory.
But when the medicines call, Yadira Huete responds quickly; perhaps because of a bond of love agreed between prescriptions and leaflet, which make her rejuvenate soul and knowledge.
"After seven years out of the sector, I revalidated my degree and began to live again between ointments and pills," says Yadira and gives a jovial laugh.
“I knew about the possibility of working in this new pharmacy, and the experience was worth. He had to study the new drugs a lot; it called my attention. I prepared the curriculum and waited for the notification. I was accepted without delay and, I have worked here since January 2019, just when this place was open.
“The dispensing is greater here, especially since the orientation to the patient depends, in many cases, on the pharmacist. Sometimes I have to explain what they are for, how they are taken or what side effects any of the products may have.
"It happens that there are little known and very useful drugs, but they are not imported in large quantities because they are very expensive, and it is necessary to explain this to each client."
Yadira Huete has witnessed special situations there. She speaks and cannot help filling her eyes with tears. “One day a little boy arrived who could not see in one eye and made very little difference in the other, as a result of a brain tumor. We take the measurements. When they came to pick up the glasses, and the boy put them on, he hugged his mother and only knew how to say 'Mommy, I saw your face again!' ”.
Undoubtedly, this woman's work is not limited to selling medicine. She gives a dose of energy and feminine vitality to those who go to her workplace. Her smile is the remedy for all illness , although now she wears a face mask and only her bright eyes stand out.
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the same counter awaits her and the happiness of the people that recognizes her and greets her in the streets for the warmth of her service. Women know the taste of well done perfectly: Yadira knows that very well.
