New scandal shakes Honduran investment body

Tegucigalpa - The Strategic Investments entity of the Honduran government (Invest-H) is experiencing the shocks of a new scandal in the context of the epidemic, in this case related to the purchase of masks, a supervising body pointed out.

This was revealed on Monday by a report from the National Anticorruption Council (CNA), which brought to the fore irregularities in the ill-fated acquisition of 474,000 N95 masks by the GyT Group.

The operation did not materialize after the CNA complaint, and GyT had to return the advance for 40 percent of the purchase, about 20 million lempiras, just over 800 thousand dollars.

Gabriela Castellanos, director of CNA, stated that the contract granted by Invest-H to the supplier through direct purchase was overvalued by 16 million lempiras.

The return of the money occurred three days after the investment body acquired almost the same number of N95 masks from the Germar Hardware Store, with purchase orders and over-invoicing almost identical to those canceled by the GyT group.

The eleventh Anti-Corruption report also reveals that the husband and mother-in-law of Deputy Waleska Zelaya, of the ruling National Party, are the founding partners of the aforementioned company and that its Board of Directors named as treasurer to the nationalist legislator.

The purchase of seven mobile hospitals from Turkey meant the biggest financial scandal in which Invest-H has been involved, which ended with the resignation of the entity's director, Marco Brogan, and 13 days later of Evelyn Bautista, who replaced him.
