Cuba advocates in Geneva for a fair and equitable international order

Geneva - Cuba defended on Tuesday at the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) the materialization of a fair, democratic and equitable international order, and pointed out the importance to renew the mandate of the independent expert in charge of the issue.

Addressing the 45th session of the HRC, Cuban diplomat Lisandra Astiasaran insisted that a fairer global order is an essential requirement to achieve development and guarantee the promotion and protection of all human rights.

During an interactive dialogue with UN independent expert Livingstone Sewanyana, the Cuban representative called to avoid that in the discussions on the international order, issues that are the exclusive prerogatives of sovereign States are mixed.

Astiasaran also announced that during the forum, Cuba will present a draft procedural resolution to renew the mandate of the independent expert.

The Caribbean nation also participated in a debate regarding the considerations of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, in which diplomat Jairo Rodriguez reiterated his country's rejection to the use of special procedures for political purposes.

Cuba and other countries have demanded at the Human Rights Council that manipulation and selective approaches must stop, through which Western powers try to accuse governments willing to defend their sovereignty and own path, without external opinions.
