President highlights 60 years of Cuba's largest mass organization

Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday highlighted the six decades of the founding of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the country's largest mass organization.

On his Twitter account, the president highlighted the foundational act, carried out by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and congratulated all CDR members.

'Happy 60th anniversary of the CDR. Neighborhood, family, solidarity, unity. Together we could. Together we can,' the head of State wrote.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also posted on Twitter that the CDRs 'will always be the genuine work of the revolutionary process,' and an expression of the Cuban people's participation in its construction and defense.

On September 28, 1960, during a popular rally to welcome the then Prime Minister Fidel Castro to the island, who was returning from addressing the United Nations, the community organization was founded.

Each new anniversary becomes a celebration, this time the date will be celebrated from homes, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The organization is currently made up of some 138,000 committees. The objective is to mobilize all people to defend the Revolution, according to its leaders.
