Cuba shares experiences on physical education and sports at UNESCO

Paris - Cuba on Monday participated in the opening ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS), a UNESCO body where experts from the Caribbean island shared experience on inclusive policies.

When speaking at the two-day online forum, Jose Cedeño pointed out that in Cuba, physical education is a major part of the citizens' comprehensive training and a priority to guarantee people's good health and physical and mental strength.

'Therefore, the work of social institutions, especially schools, is of great importance due to their social task of training and developing human capital. In them, the work of physical education professors is fundamental,' the general director of Physical Education and Sport for All at the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) noted.

According to Cedeño, physical education in Cuba is the spinal cord of the sports movement, as a subject that allows creating habits and skills, and the selection of talents.

In that regard, he noted that these processes are marked by unique and equal social bases promoted by the Revolution.

For six decades, he added, we have worked for the constant improvement of the system, the creation of the necessary infrastructure and the elementary material foundation to train the human capital, as well as for scientific research and its application.

Cuba's sports movement shows results that respond to the abovementioned factors, despite the impact of the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade, Cedeño warned at the CIGEPS meeting.

He noted Cuba's approach to cover all ages according to their characteristics, needs, motivations and interests.
