Moscow - Russia condemns the inhuman and illegitimate US blockade against Cuba, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday after he met with the Caribbean country's Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas in Moscow.
After the official talks, Lavrov told exclusively Prensa Latina that all sanctions taken to pressure Havana limit the inalienable natural rights of not only Cuban citizens, but also US citizens.
These actions 'are absolutely illegal and flagrantly violate the fundamental principles of the UN Charter,' the head of Russian diplomacy stressed.
Indeed, in pandemic conditions, it is important that all countries show political will, wisdom and foresight, the Russian minister said.
The condemnation by the international community is expressed by an almost unanimous vote in favor of Cuba's draft anti-blockade resolution in the UN General Assembly, Lavrov said, commenting that due to Covid-19, the vote was postponed from November to April 2021.
Lavrov and Cabrisas discussed the coordination of positions in the international arena as part of the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two states.
