Russia readies second vaccine as Covid-19 cases grow

Moscow - Russia announced the conclusion of clinical tests for its second vaccine against the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, cause of the Covid-19 pandemic, prepared by the 'Vektor' center, registering today one million 185 thousand 231 positive cases.

The Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology 'Vektor' pointed out that the patent for its vaccine prototype was registered as 'EniVakKorona', and it is expected that the Ministry of Health will officially authorize it as a national preparation before October 15.

When the number of daily cases in this country reaches 8,945, at the same level than on June 12, the 'Vektor' center considers progress in media studies even more necessary to combat the aforementioned disease that until now caused 20,891 deaths in this country.

According to specialists from the center attached to the Russian epidemiological control body, its vaccine uses real virus particles, with the action of synthetic peptides against agents that provoke the creation of the necessary immunity in the body.

On August 11, this country registered the first vaccine in the world against Covid-19, Sputnik V, but its use for mass vaccination of the population is planned for 2021, while the number of infected grows in various Russian regions, including this capital.

Moscow mayor's office said that 2,424 infected people were detected in the last 24 hours, the highest number since mid-May.

This city reported 1,211 patients who overcame the disease, for a total of 249 thousand 851, while the accumulated number of infected reached 295 thousand 25. Thus, the recovery rate dropped here to 84.68 percent.

During the last 24 hours, 169 people died, including 24 in this city, 22 in Saint Petersburg, nine in the Rostov province, eight in the republic of Dagestan, while six are in the provinces of Moscow and Irkutsk. Another 39 regions reported fewer than five.

In all, a total of 964 thousand 242 have been medically discharged. Thus, the recovery rate fell to 81.3 percent.

Likewise, 311 patients in Rostov, 190 in Voronezh province and 189 in Omsk province surpassed the aforementioned disease.

Covid-19 added 285 new cases in Saint Petersburg, 230 in Moscow province, 205 in Rostov and 186 in Nizhegorod province.
