Cubans remember Ernesto Che Guevara's photographic legacy

Havana - After 53 years of his assassination in Bolivia, the traveling exhibition 'Che fotografo' (Che Photographer) exhibits this Thursday the work made by guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara from his childhood to his integration to the independence feats in Cuba and Bolivia.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture and the National Council of Plastic Arts, the photographs bring together Che as a human being, leader, doctor and revolutionary, who become a world icon of social struggles for justice and internationalism.

The traveling exhibition will be on display at the Santa Clara Provincial Library, in central Villa Clara province. The sculptural Memorial that keeps the remains of the Heroic Guerrilla along with his companions who fell in Bolivian lands is erected in that province.

More than 200 snapshots reveal his first motorcycle trips across the continent through Guatemala, Venezuela, Peru or Argentina, as well as his presence in the 1955 Pan-American Games in Mexico, where he worked as a professional photographer and journalist.

Snapshots taken during his travels as a Cuban Minister of Industry or representative of the revolutionary government in nations such as India, Ceylon (formerly Sri Lanka's name) and Japan are also on display.

His example and moral integrity, which become Che one of the most prominent figures of the Revolution, are evoked every October 8 in Cuba.

Since late 1966, Che led a guerrilla front in Bolivia, where -after several months of campaigning- he was captured on October 8, 1967 in Quebrada del Yuro and assassinated in La Higuera village the following day.
