Cuban parliamentarians discuss Foreign Service bill

Havana - Cuban deputies debated today the Foreign Service Bill, in a day dedicated to the study of legislative proposals that will be submitted to Parliament for approval on October 28.

In a working session chaired by the Vice President of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), Ana Maria Mari, the legislators expressed doubts, suggested inclusions and made clarifications on various issues, some of which will be assessed by the commission in charge of drafting it.

During the presentation of the project, Congressman and Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez emphasized that its purpose is to hierarchize and centralize, in a single legal body with the rank of law, the functioning of the State in terms of service and foreign action.

He added that this is done in a way in keeping with the principles of foreign policy and revolutionary diplomacy established in the Constitution and the legal order.

The legislative initiative, in this case, corresponds to the Council of Ministers, and stands out in it the safeguarding and promotion of national interests, the foreign minister said.

The proposal regulates the direction, execution, control and inspection of the foreign policy of the State and the Government, the principles of the foreign action of these and the subjects involved, as well as their functions.

It also regulates the integration and organization of the service; the requirements for entry and stay in the service; the functions of the diplomatic and consular missions, and the powers, obligations, prohibitions and rights of those who perform them.
