The Wines and Liquors Unit of Guanajay was founded on October 15, 1920 as Bodegas Cerviño y Cela S.A., and five years later it acquired the name of C.I.A. Licorera y Vinatera Guanajay S.A. With the triumph of the Revolution, it adopted the name of José Francisco Costa Velázquez, martyr of the attack to the Moncada Garrison, native to Guanajay.
