Beijing - Chinese regulators on Thursday authorized Fosun Pharma to conduct in the country the clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by German firm BioNTech in association with its US partner Pfizer.
According to the Chinese pharmaceutical company, the National Medical Products Administration accepted the request it presented this week, after the vaccine candidate BNT162b2 is 90% effective to fight SARS-CoV-2.
Fosun Pharma signed an agreement with BioNTech in March to produce and market the vaccine in China, mainly in the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
China's approval for BNT162b2 trials boosted Fosun shares on the stock market on Thursday.
This vaccine was developed with mRNA technology and since August, it is simultaneously under final research in Germany, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey, in the context of an international BioNTech program.
Since April, China has basically maintained Covid-19 under control, only records sporadic outbreaks and mostly patients reported daily are compatriots who have arrived from abroad.
