Lisbon - Cuban handball player Pedro Valdes on Friday broke his goal record in Portugal with 44 in the current season, so he is close to passing the 800-goal barrier since his European debut in 2015.
Before starting the current campaign of the Andebol 1 League, Valdes had scored 744 goals in nearly 200 official games when he was part of Artistica de Avanca and the Sporting Clube Portugal.
The Cuban international player had 34 goals in 10 league dates and another 10 in the Europa League, so he had accumulated 788 goals, 22 from the 800-goal barrier, the highest in Portuguese handball competition and continental championships in Europe.
As a member of the leading Sporting (10-0), the left-back player registered his best league performance on October 3, when he scored nine goals in the green and white cast win 34-27 over the ADA Maia/Ismai.
Valdes records six goals against CS Dinamo Bucuresti this year in the European League as part of group B of the tournament and four in the qualifying round against Dobrogea Sud.
The Cuban handball player played with the Artistica de Avanca from 2015 to 2017, scoring 296 goals in 63 games, and currently has 492 goals in 150 games with Sporting CP.
