Cuba highlights historic international condemnation of US blockade

Havana - Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez praised the historic rejection of the international community of the United States' economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

In his Twitter account, the Foreign Minister recalled that since November 24th, 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has spoken out against this policy every year, based on an almost unanimous vote in favor of its elimination.

'The rejection of the international community due to its extraterritorial, illegal and genocidal nature is categorical,' the Rodriguez tweeted, adding that the blockade is real and must cease immediately and without any conditions.

From April 2019 to March 2020, the US economic siege against the Cuba caused losses in the order of 5.570.3 million dollars, a record figure for a year, according to Cuban authorities.

The calculations, however, do not consider the actions of the U.S. government in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, during which the unilateral coercive measures did not cease.

According to the Cuban report that serves as the basis for the annual vote at the General Assembly, the degree of hostility has reached unprecedented levels at this stage, as evidenced by the increase in the persecution of financial and commercial transactions.

This is also evidenced by the ban on flights from the United States to all Cuban provinces, with the exception of Havana, the possibility of establishing lawsuits under Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, and the persecution and intimidation of companies that supply fuel.
