Artemisa, Cuba - This year the planting of crops was affected in the territory of Alquízar due to weather conditions. In this sense, the conditions for obtaining positive results during the cold season have been guaranteed. The producers are still recovering the hectares in order to promote a favorable yield, also highlighting the cultivation of potatoes.
Lázaro Pulido González, director of Agriculture in the town, explains that in the months of September and at the beginning of October, the municipality could not fulfill with the planting plan due to the heavy rains. For this reason, in the month of November, work was done on recovery through the use of fertilizers and some herbicides for the protection of vegetables.
The territory of Alquízar presents for the most part red ferralitic soils. Therefore, it is considered a fertile land that favors the development of agriculture as a fundamental economic activity. The productions of viands, vegetables, grains constitute the main line that makes contributions to the country. Despite the delay due to meteorological events, also this year the producers intend to achieve a favorable yield in pursuit of territorial self-sufficiency.
