Cuban President Greets Anniversary of National Symphony Orchestra

Havana - Cuba''s President Raul Castro stressed the work by the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) in the defense and promotion of culture, Granma newspaper reported today.

On occasion of the 55th anniversary of such musical group, the head of State considered the OSN foundation an early sign of the importance the new Revolution gave to culture.

Cuban Culture Minister Julian Gonzalez delivered the letter to maestro Enrique Perez Mesa, director of the Symphony Orchestra, before performing yesterday at a contemporary music festival.

For Perez Mesa, Raul Castro's message implies the renovation of the musicians' commitment with the creation and memory of the founders.

The OSN was founded by maestros Enrique Gonzalez Mantici and Manuel Duchesne Cuzan. Works from the Cuban, Latin American and universal heritage were included its repertoire since its beginning.
