Carahata Diana 2001, improving passenger transport in Artemisa

Artemisa, Cuba - This week a Carahata Diana 2001 will start traveling through the rails from La Conchita, in San Cristóbal, to the locality of Aguacate at south of the municipality of Candelaria, covering a distance of 42 kilometers, a new option for the transportation of passengers.

This engine rail car has a similar frame of a bus Diana; with capacity for 26 seated passengers and 14 not seated; and for the entire stretch the full fare is 1.30 pesos. This tour will take place three times a day at a speed of 40 km / h.

The current way to cover these distances is by trucks, tractors or animal-drawn carts, so the main objective of this project is to satisfy the needs of transportation of the population that live in these isolated communities and with little road access located in the south west area of the province.

The inaugural trip was made on Sunday and to check some details, the Major General Antonio Enrique Lussón, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, assumed the role of conductor. He was accompanied by José Antonio Valeriano Fariñas, member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Party and First Secretary of this organization in the province of Artemisa; and Raúl Rodríguez Cartaya, Chairman of the Provincial Board of Directors and other provincial and municipal leaders.
