Is putting into practice a new environmental project on the south coast of Artemisa

Artemisa, Cuba – Minimize the effect of waves and the penetration of the sea on the south coast of the province of Artemisa from the gradual recovery of the wetlands with its flora and fauna is a premise of the project: The reduction of the environmental vulnerability to coastal flooding through the adaptation based in ecosystems in the southern of the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque.
In its implementation has been working since September and is expected to put it into practice for a period of five years in a distance of 84 km that covers from Punta Sucia to Punta Mora, including six coastal municipalities of both provinces, among them Güira de Melena, Alquízar and Artemisa.
With a donation from the Program of the United Nations of $ 5 millions of dollars, the aspiration in Artemisa is to restore the barrier of mangroves and perform other environmental actions in at least 3 494 hectares with fundamental impact on the south dike, according to the report given to the provincial radio by Sheila Chan, National Coordinator of the project.
She mentioned as manager unit of the project the CITMA, but she emphasized also the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Forest Company Costa Sur, the body of Forest Rangers, the universities of the provinces and the local and provincial Administrations as part of the organizations responsible for the reduction of the harmful effects of the sea on the south coast of Mayabeque and Artemisa.
