At the beginning of the concert, Rodriguez recalled that in previous presentations of this cycle, started in 2010, he and his companions always demanded the release of the Cuban Five, but today the joy is increased by having them in Cuba, attending this concert.
These men, internationally known as The Cuban Five, were arrested in 1998 in the US and sentenced to high prison sentences for alerting Cuba on plans of violent groups residing in South Florida.
Of these, René González returned to the island in May 2013 after serving 13 years in prison and renounce his US citizenship, while Fernando Gonzalez returned home in March 2014, after consummating the sentence stipulated.
For his part, Hernández, Labañino and Guerrero were released on day 17 from US jails, corresponding to an agreement between the governments of Havana and Washington in order to move towards normalization of ties between the two countries.
For a nation of fools, 'El Necio' (The fool), in that way Labañino presented Rodriguez that according to Hernandez, became, became an anthem of resistance to them in the hardest moments of the prison, when they spent days in solitary confinement in dark cells and very reduced physical space.
On the platform mounted at the back of the of the stadium, the Five chanted with Rodriguez the song entitled 'La era' that as Guerrero said he used to sang some mornings when they were allowed to a space inside the prison known as Recreation.
Tears came out in the Five and their families when Rodriguez sang
'Sweet abyss', a song that speaks of the pain caused by the remoteness of the loved one.
Rodriguez paid tribute to Cuban poet Rubén Martínez Villena, in the 115th anniversary of his birth, and recalled that he died very young, devoted to the noble cause of his people.
The troubadour Vicente Feliu also took the stage to sing along with The Five 'I will return', a poem composed in by Guerrero in jail and set to music by the late Cuban singer Polo Montañez.
