National Ballet of Cuba to Put Swan Lake on again in February

Havana -The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) will present again next February the world classic Swan Lake, according to a statement by the institution.

This obligatory piece in the repertoire of all major companies in the world will be available to the public in this capital on February 13, 14 and 15 and then on the 20, 21 and 22 of the same month at the National Theatre.

Paradoxically, the first presentation of the ballet in 1877, in the famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, received booing, due to the bad choreography by Julius Reisinger.

The piece did not die thanks to the initiative of the choreographers of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, who rescued it in 1895 in tribute to the late creator of the score, Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky.

Although the musician never came to perceive so, in this composition converge his artistic genius and an attractive drama represented by two very seductive characters: the innocent, fragile and pure of soul white swan, and the wicked, seductive, aggressive black swan.

In the second half of the twentieth century, Alicia Alonso built her own version from Petipa and Ivanov, with superior technical demand, in correspondence with the virtuosity that she could and liked to exhibit.

The first BNC dancers Viengsay Valdes, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia, Amaya Rodriguez, Dani Hernández, Victor Estevez and Jose Carlos Lozada, will be the stars of this season.

Grettel Morejon, Estheisy Menendez and Alfredo Ibáñez, among others artists will also assume central roles in the play.
