Artemisa Province to Increase Milk Production

Artemisa, Cuba - This year Artemisa’s farmers expect to increase milk production over 14 million 450 thousand liters, to reduce imports of this food, necessary in medically prescribed diets and under-age persons.
In interview offered to the National Information Agency (AIN), Lázara Martínez, provincial director of livestock in the Agricultural enterprise , spoke about the importance of diversifying animal food to achieve such goal , which has had some difficulties in the province.
Martínez also said that it is necessary to diminish livestock deaths from various causes, which decrease in two thousand 782 heads compared to the same period last year.
The most outstanding township in the province is San Cristobal , where they reopened La Coronela dairy belonging Comandante Pinares Basic Unit Enterprise(UEB). This dairy has capacity enough for a thousand cows housed.
Gregorio Prieto, production manager in the UEB, told AIN that there animals are fed on crop residues from sugar mills, to which they add honey, urea and concentrate feed the latter produced in the entity.
Other evidence of cattle recovery in Artemisa province is the operation of 72 collection units , which allows a greater control of milk delivered by farmers and other productive ways .
