Chinese Artists Celebrate Beginning of New Lunar Year in Cuba

Havana - The Folk Music Orchestra of Nanjing, China, will hold today in Cuba with a big concert the first day of the lunar year, according to the calendar to which its country is subjected to.
The group will perform in the Covarrubias hall at the National Theater complex along with the Cuban orchestra Percuba Ensemble, founded in 2000 to merge diverse genders and styles with percussion instruments and show the African descendent music together with the popular music from this country.
The foreign company will perform traditional songs of all popular Chinese music styles and, at the end, will play with the Cuban artists an ancient song of the Jiangsu province, entitled "Jazmin" (Jasmine).
Percuba Ensemble will play "Estudio variable en canon para cuatro ejecutantes," by composer Carlos Fariñas, as well as "Rumba a cuatro voces" and "Ache para un palo," by the members of the Manuel Vivar and Magdelys Savigne orchestra.
The orchestra of the historic city of Nanjing, with more than 50 years of experiences, said good bye yesterday in this same theater the lunar year with an elegant show with typical melodies, allegorical to good wishes and the admiration for animals such tiger and swallows, among others.
According to the cultural counselor of China´s embassy in Cuba, this event states a bond of unity between the Chinese residents and the overseas compatriots.
