Artemisa, Cuba - The Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, member of the Politburo and Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, attended in Artemisa the opening of the railroad section that links the provincial capital with the municipality of Guanajay and the rest of national infrastructure, accompanied by José Antonio Valeriano Fariñas, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party in the territory.
With a cost of over 10 millions of pesos, the new route decreases the time of cargo and passenger transportation between La Villa Roja (Red Villa) and the Cuban capital, and also generates greater security and reduced fuel consumption.
The new railway also benefits the operations of the Special Development Zone of Mariel connecting it with the municipality of Guanajay.
During the event René Mesa Villafaña, minister of the construction sector, recognized several distinguished workers who excelled during the implementation of the project.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Jorge Cuevas Ramos, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party; Juan Domínguez Miranda, president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power; Orlando Álvarez Acosta, member of the provincial bureau of the Party in Artemisa, among other authorities.
