San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.- Environmental protection in this area, is among the priorities of the municipal branch of the Science, Technology and Environmental Ministry (CITMA) this year.

Osvaldo Pino García, CITMA specialist at the local governing, said that the planned actions are primarily aimed at protecting the river, the detection of contaminant sources from both state and particular sector, also adds that to stop the deterioration of the channel is working on increasing reforestation to prevent soil degradation.

The CITMA specialist, points out that through the coordinated efforts of the ANAP leadership, agriculture and other agencies are planting fruit and timber trees is encouraged for preventing soil erosion, stresses the importance of setting windbreaks in fields, preventive work to avoid the spread of forest fires and increased planting of trees on the slopes of the river.

Osvaldo Pino says that actions in favor of the environment involving all individuals, from the district to the community, the individual and social awareness to prevent dumps, dumping of solid waste in public places, among other causes the deterioration of communal hygiene.
