Director of Cuban National Choir Receives Doctor Honoris Causa

Havana, Cuba - Master Digna Guerra, professor and director of the National Choir of Cuba, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of the Arts (ISA by its Spanish acronym), in a ceremony that took its seat in that house of higher learning in this city.

In the presence of Abel Acosta, Deputy Minister of Culture, and Miguel Barnet, president of the National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists, the honoured tutor of generations of musicians, received this recognition for her hard academic work in the training of singers.

The words of praise, by maestro Guido Lopez-Gavilan, highlighted Digna Guerra's commitment from her beginnings at Amadeo Roldan Conservatory until today, where she is respected as one of the most important directors of the international choral community.

Meanwhile, Guerra thanked family, friends and students for the years of collaboration and ongoing experiences and learning.

I want to thank the Cuban Revolution by giving me the opportunity to study music and be who I am today, she said excited.

Finally, students and colleagues gathered to sing to Digna, a director who also serves as President of the Cuban Association of Choirs, participating in international competitions in countries like France, Venezuela, Canada, Spain, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Peru.

Her work includes the productions for film soundtracks in movies like El Siglo de las Luces and La última cena, as well as the albums Aporreumbosis, O Vos Omnes and Tu Son Entero, recorded with EGREM record label.
