Cuban Weightlifters with Good Performance in Int'l Tourney

Havana, Cuba - Cuban athletes stood out today with good results during the second day of the 34th Manuel Suárez in Memoriam International Weightlifting Tournament taking place in the city of Cienfuegos.
The women earned three gold medals, two in the divisions of 58 and 69 kg through Saily Valdespino and Mariela Almaguer, respectively, while the third medal was won by Mariela Hernandez, in the U-17 category, with 174 kilograms in the biathlon event.
In the men’s event, the also Cuban Yuri Felix Ugarte (69 Kg) improved his personal best by lifting 287 kilograms and took the gold medal with a wide lead over his opponents Luis Verdalies, from USA, and Honduras´ Jorge Nepali.
Yesterday’s other winners were Salvadoran Julio Salamanca (62 Kg) and the Brazilian woman Bruna Piloto (63 Kg).
In addition, Nicaragua consolidated its leadership in the 5th U17 Tournament now with three gold medals.
