Italy Celebrates Filmaker Fernando Birri''s 90th Birthday

Rome - In homage to the 90th birthday of filmaker Fernando Birri, also known as the father of the latinamerican new cinema from today toMay there will be a retrospective shown in Casa Argentina in this capital.
The fil showing called 'Fernando Birri: 90 Years of militancy of the image', started showing 'Tire Dié',that in 1960 was his first film.
Other materials that will be presented are'Castagnino diario romano', of 1967 about the las stay in Italy of Argentinian paiter Juan Carlos Castagnino.
Also, 'Elegía friulana'', 2007, done abouth his grandfather who went to South America in 1880.
Birri was the founder of the International School for Cinema and TV in San Antonio de Los Baños, Cuba, which he also directed it.institución de la que también fue director.
Resident in Italy for years, Birri was born on March 13, 1925 in the Argentinian city of Santa Fe.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
