More Land to Produce Food

Fidel Lorente, head of Land Control in the Provincial Department of Agriculture, during the Provincial Bureau of the Party reported that other 202 hectares of land in usufruct will be delivered for food production through Legislative Decree 300 .
Twenty beneficial owners from Bahia Honda, six from Bauta and four from Candelaria must exploit these soils, most of them dedicated to produce several crops and fruits, although some will be use for cattle raising, Lorente said.
The State and, in particular, the Ministry of Agriculture expect that this policy will contribute to increase the volumes of food production, in order to satisfy the needs of the population and reduce prices of products in the agricultural markets. Therefore, they strictly apply the decree law regarding land use.
According to the official, they have cancelled the contracts to 1296 beneficial owners because they had not fulfilled any of its postulates: 332 of them had to give back the land since they did not start productive work during the six months after obtaining the lease, or leave them abandoned for the same period; and 24 others because they used the land for purposes different to those agreed.
Also, from 4985 hectares taken back from the ones who failed, 3623 have been placed in the hands of other 430 who applied, Lorente said.
The Bureau also analyzed the actions taken by the organization in controlling the efficiency of the investment process in the Special Development Zone Mariel (mainly in the Construction and Installation Company), the role of Young Communist League(UJC) and the union, in the discussion of quality and crime confrontation.
The provincial bureau also praised the Party’s work in terms of strengthening the province’s sport movement , as well as the progress of the experiment and the splitting process of functions between the Assembly and the Administration.
