Arts and Culture Summit for Peace Opens in Colombia

Bogota - Hundreds of artists and thinkers participate in the Summit of Arts and Culture for Peace opened today for the first time to support efforts seeking the end of the armed conflict in Colombia.
According to organizers, creators and intellectuals from around the world will participate in the event, which fosters spaces to discuss the role they can play to promote a scenario of peace in Colombia, after more than 50 years of conflict.
The program of the summit, which will run until 12 April, includes concerts by renowned artists as well as an approach to processes that have changed 150 Colombian and foreign communities, the experiences of the Abuelas de la Plaza de Mayo (Argentina) and the teachings of 15 Colombian indigenous leaders among them.
Activists, human rights defenders, politicians and other personalities also continue the call for a peace demonstration on coming April 9, when Colombians will commemorate the National Day of solidarity with the victims of the conflict, totaling some 6.8 million people.
On April 10, the Soccer Game for Peace will bring together those who are fond of this sport and in favor of the talks between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), permanently headquartered in Havana.
Former Argentinean star Diego Armando Maradona will be the leading figure of the game, deputy secretary of Bogota management Jose Cuesta told the media.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
