
San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba - This municipality has approved the Environmental Strategy, guiding document for sustainable development in various spheres of social and economic life of the territory, participation, opinions and perspectives included in the society organizations related to the theme of environmental conservation.
The territory has the Technical Advisory Group for the rehabilitation of Ariguanabo River ecosystem. Composed of several scientists, biologists and specialists in environmental issues, and with the support of the ariguanabense party and the government workong in commissions. Among the tasks of the group is to advise CITMA of the municipality, in the analysis of rehabilitation plans, projects and reports, develops and evaluates new projects, also participates in the monitoring committees and regularly assess the progress it allows the rehabilitation process.
Osvaldo Pino, CITMA specialist in the territory say out that is raising the reservoir of Ariguanabo level river, made with metal beams, which guarantees the safety of the population and minimize the risk of flooding at the time within the territorial impact appears rain or other weather event. Increased the storage capacity of 480 000 cubic meters of water. This aspect affects the state of the Ariguanabo Watershed.
The project approved for the mini- industry for the manufacture of preserved agricultural productions of the territory, when it starts from financing, ensure sustainability with higher offers.
One of CITMA priorities is the reforestation to offset losses of forest cover by logging, total and partial blockage of the riverbed due to sedimentation and high accumulations of aquatic vegetation. For this working in conjunction with the Municipal Department of Agriculture on forest reforestation and planting of fruit represented in acres of various species of trees among which are the carob, eucalyptus, leucaena, acacia and fruit trees such as tamarind, avocado, mango and loquat, among others, contributes to further action to reduce degradation.
The environmental strategy also intends to work on the recovery of natural water quality, cleaning the Cave Gully and recovery of the objectives of recreation, tourism and heritage value.
