Successful Nautical Meet Cuba-United States

Havana - U.S. regatta Havana Challenge brings here today a demonstration on the Malecon (seaside drive) to the bay of the capital, enthusiastic for the sports meet with Cubans.
The program of the visit b y 20 boats from the United States to this archipelago (16 to 21st May) includes for today an exhibition of the boats along the Malecon and the entrance of Havana Bay.
This Wednesday spokespersons of the Hemingway International Club, sponsors of the regatta and the 100 Americans who arrived in those boats, consider the meet successful, above all the competition of the Hobie Cats with the Cubans.
Sailors of the Cuban team won the race over the U.S. participants in the second edition of the regatta Havana Challenge, in the meet of small boats, that took place Tuesday in waters along the Malecon of this capital.
The first place went to the duet Nino de la Guardia and Alejandro de la Guardia, with the boat Hobie 1.
Very near the winners came in the boat led by sailors Pedro Enrique Hernandez and Emmanuel Solas, on board Hobie 2, who left the third position to the duet of Julio David Mesa and Ernesto Alvarez with Hobie 3.
In the friendly competition took part five boats from Cuba and four of the United States, all of the type Hobie Cats, which covered three turns to a circuit of 0.87 nautical miles.
The awarding ceremony held at the Hemingway International Nautical Club was attended by the mayor of Key West, Craig Gates and the Commodore of the Yacht Club of that city located at the extreme south of Florida, Bob Harvey.
The host and also Commodore, Jose Miguel Diaz Escrich and head animator of nautical sports in Cuba, congratulated the winners and all the crews that offered such a wonderful performance.
The Americans arrived on May 16 from Key West aboard 20 recreational boats, after Washington gave permission to travel to Cuba, for the first time in the last 15 years, when the first competition of this kind took place.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
