Cuban Dominguez Wins in Chess Grand Prix and Climbs to Second Place

Havana, Cuba - Cuban Leinier Dominguez defeated Russian Peter Svidler during the seventh round of the Khanty-Mainsiysk Chess Grand Prix, in Russia , tournament headed by Italian Fabiano Caruana.
Leinier (2734 Elo points) beat Svidler in 38 moves of a Spanish opening and now owns 4.5 units and appears second tied with the local Sergey Karjakin, who drew with Georgian Baadur Jobava, escorting the leader Caruana (5), who also signed peace with Israeli Boris Gelfand.
According to the event organizers, the other win of the day was achieved by American Hikaru Nakamura at the expense of French Maxime Vachier-Lagraf and Russians Dmitry Jakovenko and Alexander Grishuk drew their match.
Svidler and Nakamura rank 4th and 5 th with 4 points.
So far, Leinier´s live Elo reaches 2750 units and ranks 14th in the world ranking, advancing 10 seats.
Tomorrow’s matches will be Leinier vs. Russian Evgeny Tomaschevsky, Caruana vs. Jakovenko, Gelfand vs. Svidler, Lagraf vs. Dutch Anish Giri, Jobava vs. Nakamura, and Grishuk vs. Karjakin.
