Paris - Cuban ambassador at UNESCO, Dulce Buergo, stressed that the cultural legacy of humanity is increasingly threatened by conflict and violence.

The increase of conflicts, violence, military interventions and illegal actions such as illegal trafficking of goods, are among the main threats, stated Buergo prior to a concert at the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO).

The diplomat stressed the work of that entity in promoting the preservation of the cultural heritage of humanity.

The activity provided a venue to reiterate Cuba's candidature to the World Heritage Committee, a body to which the Caribbean nation aspires in the elections to be held late this year, during the 38th General Conference of the international organization. The main reason of the meeting was the concert by Tony Avila and his group, known Cuban band that gave the audience an excellent and varied musical proposal.

The concert, faithful exponent of the Cuban cultural wealth, was dedicated to the World Day for Cultural Diversity and the tenth anniversary of the Convention of the same name.

More than 100 delegates from several countries represented at the UNESCO participated in the activity, according to an information released by the Cuban representation at the UNESCO.
