Scientific achievements of the Tobacco Research Institute
Artemisa, Cuba.- The Tobacco Research Institute systematically obtained good results in production. In breeding `Corojo 2006´ variety grown under canvas and the sun provides. Introducing cytoplasmic male sterility in `Sancti Spiritus 2006´and increased the nitrogen fertilization for wrapper yields.
Moreover they obtained `Burley Pinar 2010´, the first Cuban variety resistant to wilt tobacco and `Criollo 2010´ new male sterile hybrid of Cuban black tobacco with commercial potential on the island.
In 2014 they had 15 projects with technological findings related to tobacco production which can raise the levels of planting also managed to management strategies for pest control and soil conservation.
For 2015 the Tobacco Research Institute plans a total of 54 business projects and maintain its scientific and economic results.
