Cuba hosts two top volleyball events this weekend

Havana, Cuba - The Sports City Coliseum of this city will host from Friday two important volleyball contests, the men’s Cuba-Bulgaria World League match and the women's North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) Final Four.

The press conferences and technical meetings of both competitions are scheduled for today at Melia Habana and Triton Hotels respectively.

The Cuban men´s team will play as local on Friday and Saturday after their first matches on the road in Calgary, where they lost twice in three sets against Canada, and in Mendoza, city where they lost (0-3) and won (3-2), in that order, versus Argentina.
Meanwhile, the Final Four –which grants two tickets for the World Cup to be held next September and brings together the top four teams of the ranking at that level-, includes the squads of the Dominican Republic, second, Cuba (third), Puerto Rico (fourth) and Canada (fifth).

United States (first) will be absent by being the current world champion, status that guarantees its presence in the WC.

According to the scheduled, Cuba will debut against Puerto Rico on Friday, then will face Canada (Saturday) and the Dominican Republic (Sunday).

The remaining matches will be between Dominicans and Canadians (Friday), Puerto Ricans and Dominicans (Saturday) and Canadians and Puerto Ricans (Sunday).

Speaking to Jit, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, senior vice president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and head of NORCECA, stressed that the simultaneous organization of both events will be possible thanks to the joint actions of the Cuban Federation, in collaboration with FIVB and NORCECA.

In this regard, he highlighted the consent and support of governmental authorities in a country - Cuba- with unique potential to organize events of this level.
